LCDR Andrew LaMorie, 38, died of cardiac arrest while serving as the Port Operations Officer, Fleet Naval Activities, Yokosuka, Japan. He enlisted in the Navy Nuclear Power Program in June 1987, the BOOST class of 1988-1989, and received a SECNAV appointment to the U.S. Naval Academy Class of 1993. LCDR LaMorie served in South America and Japan. He received a Navy-Marine Corps Achievement Medal and a Navy-Marine Corps commendation Medal. He was survived by his wife, Jill Alison LaMorie and their two children, Madeline and Alexander. He was also survived by his parents, Andy and Renee LaMorie, and his siblings, Justin LaMorie and Nicole Banning

“My dad would always be the first to volunteer for a mission. He loved the U.S. Navy…My dad was known at the Academy for having a big heart, always being late to return after weekend leave after meeting my mom, being serious, but having a good sense of humor, loving math and science, overcoming challenges and not having a privileged background, and always feeling a huge sense of pride that he was at the Naval Academy and was a graduate,” said Madeline LaMorie, Andrew’s daughter.

The Travis Manion Foundation honored LCDR Andrew D. LaMorie on June 20, 2011, through a Challenge Grant given to Madeline LaMorie, Andrew’s daughter. Madeline attended the Randolph-Macon Academy Summer Study Enrichment program. There, she tackled her academic weaknesses while building character and preparing herself for high school and a career in a math or science field, while honoring her father’s passion for the subjects.
