The 9/11 Heroes Run 5k welcomes runners, ruckers, and walkers of all levels and of all ages. Events take place all over the world, on or near September 11th, and are 100% organized by local community volunteers. It is the perfect opportunity for your community to personally come out and thank your local veterans, their families, and first responders in an annual, fun, and family friendly environment!

EVENT PARKING

Event parking will be available in the parking lot behind Dockery’s, located at 880 Island Park Drive.  A complimentary shuttle service will be offered for your convenience from 11:30AM until 4:30PM.  

Limited street parking is available along Island Park Drive and portions of Seven Farms Drive between River Landing Dr and the Volvo Cars Stadium.  We kindly ask that you DO NOT PARK ANYWHERE BETWEEN THE INTERSECTIONS OF SEVEN FARMS/RIVER LANDING OR SEVEN FARMS/DANIEL ISLAND DRIVE, for the safety of all participants!  Any cars parked between River Landing Dr and Pier View Street on Sunday, November 17th between 8AM and 4PM are subject to being towed at the owner’s expense!!! 

 

OPENING CEREMONIES & SPECIAL GUESTS OF HONOR

OPENING CEREMONIES WILL BEGIN @ 1:30PM, IN FRONT OF THE CHARLESTON FIRE & POLICE DEPT.

Opening ceremonies will include presentation of the flags, bagpipe performances, National Anthem and personal speeches by our Special Guests of Honor!

GORUCK DIVISION

Back again this year is the GORUCK division!  In this division, there is a WEIGHT REQUIREMENT for medal consideration!  Anyone registered for the GORUCK division will be expected to wear a Rucksack, backpack or comparable Military/First Responder uniform and/or gear while participating in the 5K Run/Walk.  GORUCK participants wanting to be considered for medal placement in that division will need to bring their Rucksack, backpack, gear and/or other qualifying weight to the GORUCK tent next to Packet Pick-up on race day!!!  All those who wish to qualify for medal consideration will need to be checked in, weighed and confirmed no later than 1:15PM!  GORUCK participants will start at the same time and location as regular 5K participants, and will utilize the same race course.  All those who participate in our GORUCK division will receive a commemorative GORUCK / Travis Manion Foundation patch at Packet Pick-Up.  For full details, weight requirements and/or additional information regarding the GORUCK division, please email us at Charleston@911heroesrun.org!

 

RAFFLES & GIVEAWAYS

Thanks to our generous sponsors, we will have TONS of amazing Raffles & Giveaways featured at our event.  Tickets for MOST of the raffles are $1 each, and all forms of payment are accepted! All Raffle winners will be drawn and announced at 6:00PM, during our Post-Race After Party @ Dockery’s, and winners need not be present to win!!! 

 

ADDITIONAL INFO

Our event is STROLLER-FRIENDLY.  We ask that all participants using strollers line up in the back of the crowd at the Start Line, in order to avoid anyone getting trampled.

NO BIKES ARE ALLOWED IN THE 5K RUN/WALK.

Our event is PET-FRIENDLY.  If you plan to bring a pet, we ask that they be up to date on all vaccinations and that they are non-aggressive, under any circumstances!  We will have large crowds, loud noises and young children so please use your best judgment when deciding on bringing your pet. We also ask that all pets be kept on a leash at all times, and that all pet owners clean up after their pet PROMPTLY…no exceptions!!!

 

STREET CLOSURES

Seven Farms Drive between the intersections of River Landing Dr. and Pier View St. will be closed from 1:00PM until 3:00PM.  Other streets involved with our race route will be closed at approximately 2:00PM and reopened as soon as the last participant clears that section of the course, not to last longer than 3:00PM.  These streets include Seven Farms Drive between the intersections of River Landing and Daniel Island Drive, portions of Daniel Island Dr. (from main intersection to Purcell Lane) and River Landing Drive (from main intersection to Children’s Park).   

 

POST-RACE AFTER PARTY

New this year, join us for the official 9/11 Heroes Run – Charleston After Party @ Dockery’s on Daniel Island!!!  Get out of the heat and rest your feet from 4PM – 7PM at Dockery’s on Daniel Island!!! Be sure to bring your race bibs for a chance to get a little something extra from Dockery’s!  We’ll have music and entertainment by Mix 95.9 and Brooke Ryan from “Two Girls and a Guy”, and we’ll also be announcing all of our raffle winners at 6PM (winners need not be present to win)!

Travis Manion Foundation is proud to partner with GORUCK again in 2019, bringing rucking divisions to every 9/11 Heroes Run. Rucking is a sport grounded in Special Forces Training in which participants carry weighted rucksacks. All participants registered for the GORUCK division will receive this exclusive Travis Manion Foundation GORUCK patch.
