Preston Tracey Jones was born on January 12, 1994 in Knoxville, TN. Shortly after he was born, his family moved to Gardiner, ME. He graduated from Gardiner Area High School in 2012 and joined the U.S. Army.

Preston was stationed at FT Bragg, NC as an engineer with the 27th Engineer Brigade. There he met his fiancé Samantha. After four years of service, he transitioned out of active duty into the North Carolina National Guard where he served with the 881st Engineer Company. He assisted in the relief efforts for Hurricane Matthew in NC as well as Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico. 

Preston loved life. He was the person that everyone could count on and would always make you laugh. He was the hardest worker in the room, whether that was at the gym, at work, or in the kitchen. Preston loved to bake and his favorite recipes were his chocolate chip cookies and homemade pies. He made the world a happier place. He is survived by his fiancé Samantha, his parents Tracey and Pam, and his sister Callie.

Character Strength Story: Humor was one of Preston's top three character traits. He always knew how to make people laugh, especially in difficult conditions. Preston was assisting in the relief efforts after Hurricane Maria for a month or so directly after the Hurricane. When he arrived, the "base" had no power, water, etc. It was extremely hot and they were quite miserable. On their "base," there were wild horses all over. During their downtime one day, Preston lured a horse into their barracks with a peanut butter cracker. He placed the cracker on his roommate's head and the horse started eating the cracker right off of the guy's head. It was hysterical and everyone loved it. -submitted by Samantha, Preston's fiancé
