Cpl Jonathan (Jonny) Porto was born in St. Petersburg, FL on February, 26, 1984. He had 7 siblings and 2 half brothers. Although he lived in Florida for most of his life and enlisted in the Marine Corps in Florida, he also lived in Missouri and New Hampshire. He graduated high school in New Hampshire and was a die hard Red Sox and Patriots fan. In 2008, he enlisted in the Marine Corps as a Small Arms Repair Technician. While attending MOS school at Aberdeen Proving Ground, he met his wife Rachel. They met in August of 2008 and were married on May 2, 2009. Shortly after their wedding, they learned they were going to be parents. Jonathan was stationed with 1st Battalion 6th Marine Regiment and was deployed to Helmand Province, Afghanistan in December of 2009. His daughter, Ariana, was born on January 15, 2010. Jonny was so excited to be a father and couldn’t wait to come home to meet his daughter. On March 14, 2010, Jonny was killed during combat operations in Marjah, Afghanistan. He was 26 years old. His ability to make everyone smile, his love for his family and his Corps, and his infectious laugh will never be forgotten. – submitted by family
