PFC. Justin R. Davis, USA, of Gaithersburg, MD, died in Korengal Outpost, Afghanistan (near Kunar Province), on June 25, 2006 when he came in contact with indirect fire while on patrol during combat operations.  Davis was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 32nd Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division (Light Infantry), Fort Drum, N.Y. He was 19 years old when he was killed. He earned the Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, and the Afghan Campaign Medal. He is survived by his father, Dennis Johnson and his mother, Paula Davis. Justin loved martial arts. He joined the Army in June 2005 and was deployed to Afghanistan in February 2006.

“He was passionate about joining the service. He would always say, ‘This is my dream. I am going to follow it’ … He died doing what he loved,” said Justin’s mother, Paula Davis.

The Travis Manion Foundation honored Pfc. Justin Ray Davis, USA through the Character Does Matter program on Oct. 12, 2011 when his story inspired 260 students at Strawberry Mansion High School in Philadelphia, PA.
