In Honor Of

Richard A. Fry


The Pittsburgh 9/11 Heroes Run will be held in memory of Richard A.Fry., and the 1-mile fun run/walk will be named in his honor. His granddaughter, Sophia, will be singing the national anthem at the opening ceremony.
Richard was a Navy veteran who served during the Vietnam War on the USS Independence. He joined the Greensburg Volunteer Fire Department Hose Co. No. 7 in December 1972 where he served as president, vice president, house committee, and was on the board of control. He was also a member of the Westmoreland County Firemen’s Association, Pennsylvania State Firemen’s Association, Westmoreland County Fire Chief’s Association, PA State Firemen’s Association Over the Hill Gang, Latrobe Fire Department, and former member of the St. Vincent Volunteer Fire Department.
Richard was a life member of the VFW Post No. 33, Greensburg, where he was a commander, senior vice commander, all-state commander, trustee, and judge advocate. He was also the president and served on the VFW honor guard.
Richard was married to his wife Patty for 52 years. Together they had three children, Sheila Brumley (Coleman), Melissa Demorest (Chris), and Richard Fry (Valerie). Three grandchildren, Jacob Brumley (Caroline), Allyson Brumely, Sophia Demorest, and two great-grandchildren, Benjamin Brumley and Joseph Brumley. Richard was proud to serve in the US Military and spent his life giving back to others.

    Parking is available at the North Park Boathouse beginning at 7:00 AM.

    Packet Pickup and Day of Registration begins at 7:30 AM on race day and will run until 8:30 AM.

    Pre-Race starts at 8:40 AM and race kicks off at 9:00 AM sharp!
  • GORUCK

    Travis Manion Foundation is proud to partner with GORUCK again in 2023, bringing rucking divisions to every 9/11 Heroes Run. Rucking is a sport grounded in Special Forces Training in which participants carry weighted rucksacks. All participants registered for the GORUCK division will receive this year's exclusive TMF GORUCK patch. Please read the rules and requirements carefully as they have changed since last year.
