Operation Legacy Service Projects
Oct/Nov 2021 - Newtown, PA
TMF volunteers will assist members of the Guardians of the National Cemetery with the Avenue of Flags at Washington Crossing National Cemetery (WCNC). The Avenue of Flags is a policy tribute to veterans interred at national cemeteries across our country. It consists of U.S. burial flags that have been donated by the families of deceased Veterans to the cemetery for the express purpose of being displayed on the Avenue of Flags.
The Avenue of Flags is on display for significant Veteran days of honor, such as Memorial Day, Veterans Day, and other days directed by the local cemetery Director.
The Guardians of the National Cemetery is the official support group of Washington Crossing National Cemetery, as recognized by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. The Washington Crossing Honor Guard (WCHG) is within the Guardians organization, which consists of U.S. military veteran volunteers trained and certified to render military funeral honors. The WCHG is onsite for every veteran interred at WCNC and has not missed a funeral in over 11 years.
