LESSONS IN CHARACTER
Travis Manion was a brother, a Marine, and a shining example of what it means to live with character. Told through the voice of his sister, Ryan, this true story celebrates the everyday moments—and big decisions—that shaped his life.
From childhood fun and games, to teenage aspirations, to overseas battlefields, Travis lived by five simple lessons that continue to inspire all who hear them.
Praise for Things My Brother Used to Say
“As the daughter of a hero and now the mother of two little girls, I know how important it is to raise our children with role models who lived with courage and conviction. My daughters will grow up knowing their grandfather’s story and carrying his legacy forward, just as Ryan is doing for her brother. Books like this remind us that even when those we love are no longer here, their example can still guide the next generation.”
- Meghan McCain, host, writer and political activist
"The lessons learned from the book leave a lasting impact on readers of all ages. Thanks to Gold Star family members like Ryan who generously tell their loved ones’ stories. We can all learn from their legacies as we strive to live with character, courage, and commitment."
- Lane Johnson, two-time Super Bowl Champion, Philadelphia Eagles Football Star
"Travis Manion was a hero that had a positive impact wherever he went, whether with his family and friends, on the wrestling mat, or in combat with his fellow Marines. This book allows Travis to continue to teach kids how to be people of character in everything they do."
- Jocko Willink, Retired Navy SEAL, Best-Selling Author of the Way of the Warrior Kid Series
