Position Summary
The Director of Individual Giving is a key leadership role responsible for advancing the strategic direction and growth of TMF’s individual giving program. This role provides high-level oversight and innovation in the cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of all levels of donors. As a key member of the Development leadership team, this director will manage a portfolio up to 75 current and prospective donors, solicit, cultivate and steward relationships, guide cross-functional teams in driving data-informed decision-making, deepening donor relationships, and building a sustainable philanthropic giving infrastructure aligned with TMF’s mission and long-term vision.
This leader will also play a pivotal role in identifying and qualifying transformational giving opportunities, providing strategic counsel to senior leadership, and championing donor engagement practices that reflect TMF’s values and impact.
TMF will accept applications from anywhere in the continental United States but there is a preference for candidates who live in the eastern or central time zones.

Duties and Responsibilities
Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
Strategic Leadership & Team Management
- Lead TMF’s individual giving with a focus on scaling sustainable revenue and deepening donor relationships across all gift levels.
- Supervise and mentor team members supporting individual giving, research, and stewardship activities, fostering a culture of collaboration, growth, and accountability.
- Serve as a thought partner to the Senior Director of Individual Giving in planning and executing high-impact campaigns, setting departmental goals, and evaluating performance.
- Play a key leadership role in setting department-wide development strategy, integrating research, portfolio management, and donor engagement to drive sustainable revenue growth.
Portfolio Management & Donor Engagement
- Personally manage a select portfolio of 75 donors and prospects, guiding their donor journey through strategic cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship.
- Support and advise development leadership in engaging top-tier donors, preparing briefing materials, and providing tailored strategy recommendations.
- Develop engagement strategies and giving opportunities aligned with donor interests and organizational priorities.
- Provide strategic oversight and leadership for the organization’s donor database, ensuring system-wide data integrity, standardization, and optimization to support sophisticated moves management, donor engagement strategies, and high-level decision-making.
Donor Pipelining & Prospect Development
- Model cross-functional collaboration by partnering closely with the lead of the research function to strategically direct prospect identification, qualification, and prioritization efforts—ensuring alignment with major and principal gift goals while fostering a culture of shared ownership and strategic insight.
- Maintain and advance a personal portfolio of prospects through disciplined moves management and relationship-building.
- Oversee the development of robust donor profiles, giving histories, and philanthropic interests using tools such as iWave, LinkedIn, and other research platforms.
- Collaborate with the development team to assess pipeline strength and develop forecasting tools and dashboards.
Campaign Strategy and Analysis
- Drive donor segmentation and targeting strategies for special initiatives, capital campaigns, and other key fundraising priorities.
- Analyze campaign performance and donor engagement metrics to inform future strategy and ensure ongoing refinement of individual giving efforts.
- Model and foster cross-departmental collaboration, working closely with Marketing & Communications, Events, Data & Technology, and Programs teams to ensure campaign strategies are aligned, well-resourced, and effectively executed to maximize donor engagement and impact.
Data & Analytics
- In tandem with the Manager of Individual Giving & Research, collaborate with the Data & Technology tean to leverage CRM data and fundraising reports to inform strategy, evaluate performance, and identify new opportunities.
- Ensure accurate and timely gift entry, acknowledgment, and data hygiene in partnership with the Individual Giving team.
- Provide strategic oversight of individual giving data systems, pipelines, and reporting within Salesforce, ensuring alignment with development goals and operational excellence.
- Champion best practices in moves management, data hygiene, and donor segmentation to optimize revenue potential and donor experience.
- Working with the research team for individual giving, ensure integration of prospect research and donor insights into strategic planning and team operations.
Cross-Functional Collaboration & Representation
- Work with cross-departmental teams, including Events, Data & Technology, Marketing & Communications, Programs, and Corporate Partnerships, to align donor engagement with broader organizational efforts.
- Represent TMF at donor meetings, cultivation events, and other external-facing activities.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree required; master’s degree is a plus. 5+ years of nonprofit fundraising experience, with an emphasis on individual giving and mid-level donor strategy.
- Demonstrated success leading and maintaining donor stewardship, pipelining, and portfolio management across a team.
- Leadership experience, with ability to manage and motivate team members. This director will be responsible for managing at least one member of the Individual Giving team.
- Experience managing and executing direct cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies for a personal portfolio of individual donors and prospects. Lead face-to-face solicitation meetings, utilizing relationship-building techniques to engage donors, secure gifts, and deepen long-term commitments.
- Proficient at tracking and assessing donor engagement to refine approaches and ensure a personalized, results-driven strategy for each prospect.
- Proficiency with donor management systems (preferably Salesforce) and fundraising analytics.
- Highly competent with Microsoft Office Suite and G-Suite, and/or Salesforce CRM for developing and maintaining organized, comprehensive, and detailed research. Also necessary to use those systems to quantitatively analyze data.
- Experience with iWave and/or project management software is a plus.
- Experience creating and maintaining data visualizations and reports.
- Ability to be discreet and maintain confidentiality.
- Strategic thinker with strong project management skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent and persuasive communicator with exceptional written, oral, and presentation skills. Demonstrated ability to manage your time, communicate resources needed effectively, and maintain thorough notes and action items.
- Must be self-reliant and initiative-driven, while still being an effective and collaborative team member; energetic, flexible, and proactive.
- Remains focused and efficient in the face of pressure and an ever-changing environment.
- Dedicated to the foundation’s mission and has a passion for service/community development.
- Military service and or connected to the U.S. military is a plus, but not required.
- Occasional travel is required for donor meetings and events. Flexibility to accommodate occasional evening and weekend work.
- Must have their own car in working condition and a valid driver’s license. Proof of automobile insurance is required. TMF does reimburse for mileage when a personal vehicle is used for business travel.

The pay for this position is based on the candidate’s work experience, skills, and abilities. TMF offers a benefits package, which includes medical and dental, short-term disability, long-term disability, life and participation in our 401(k) program, to name a few.
