Position Summary
The Manager of Communications is responsible for elevating the organization’s brand, visibility, and impact through strategic communications, public relations, media relations, storytelling, and integrated marketing campaigns. This role also helps manage sponsor activation and promotion of corporate and strategic partnerships, ensuring partners receive meaningful visibility, engagement opportunities, and measurable value while advancing the organization’s mission.
The ideal candidate is a strong communicator and skilled storyteller who can develop compelling campaigns, generate earned media, and execute partnership activations that drive awareness, engagement, and organizational growth.
TMF accepts applications from candidates across the continental United States, with a preference for those located near a TMF office. Travis Manion Foundation (TMF) unites communities to strengthen America's national character by empowering veterans and families of fallen to develop and lead future generations. In 2007, 1stLt Travis Manion was killed in Iraq while saving his wounded teammates. Travis' legacy lives on in the words he spoke before leaving for his final deployment, "If Not Me, Then Who..." Guided by this ethos, veterans continue their service, develop strong relationships with their communities, and thrive in their post-military lives by serving as character role models to youth. Duties and Responsibilities
Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
Communications & Public Relations
- Develop and execute integrated communications strategies that support organizational priorities, fundraising initiatives, advocacy efforts, programs, and events.
- Manage media relations efforts, including media outreach, press releases, story pitching, spokesperson preparation, and crisis communications support and management of the organization’s retained PR agency.
- Manage editorial calendars and oversee content planning to ensure consistent storytelling throughout the year.
- Identify opportunities to elevate the organization’s thought leadership, mission impact, and beneficiary stories.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to translate programmatic outcomes into compelling communications content.
- Monitor and report on communications performance, earned media results, audience engagement, and brand awareness metrics.
- Support communications planning and promotion for signature events, campaigns, volunteer activations, and national initiatives.
Partnership Activation
- Manage the marketing/communications deliverables for corporate partnership activations and sponsorship fulfillment.
- Work with the marketing team to execute integrated marketing plans that maximize partner visibility and engagement while aligning with organizational goals.
- Collaborate with Development and Corporate Partnerships teams to support sponsorship launches, cause-marketing campaigns, volunteer initiatives, and national partnership activations.
- Manage partnership recognition across communications channels, events, website, email marketing, and social media, sponsorship and impact reports.
- Coordinate media and public relations opportunities involving corporate partners.
- Identify innovative activation opportunities that deepen partner engagement and strengthen long-term relationships.
- Attend events as needed to support communications, media relations, and partnership activation efforts.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree (or previous military service) in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, Journalism, or a related field.
- Minimum of 4 years’ experience in communications, public relations, marketing, brand management, or related fields.
- Demonstrated success securing earned media coverage and managing public relations initiatives.
- Strong writing, editing, and storytelling abilities across multiple communications channels.
- Experience developing and executing integrated marketing campaigns.
- Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
- Experience working with external stakeholders, sponsors, or corporate partners.
- Highly competent with Microsoft Office Suite and G-Suite.
- Self-starter with excellent organizational skills; must be self-reliant and initiative-driven, while still being an effective and collaborative team member.
- Remains focused and efficient in the face of pressure, delivers results with timelines; not intimidated by complex tasks, challenging timelines, or a fast-paced work environment.
- Energetic, flexible, and proactive with dedication to the mission of Travis Manion Foundation and a passion for service and community development.
- Must have their own car in working condition and a valid driver’s license. Proof of automobile insurance is required. TMF does reimburse for mileage when a personal vehicle is used for business travel.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in agency, nonprofit, veteran service, philanthropy, or mission-driven organizations.
- Experience supporting cause-marketing campaigns, sponsorship activations, or corporate social impact initiatives.
- Familiarity with media monitoring, email marketing, CRM, and digital analytics platforms.
- Military service and/or connected to the U.S. military is a plus, but not required.
Compensation

The pay for this position is $70-75k and is based on the candidate’s work experience, skills, and abilities. TMF offers a benefits package, which includes medical and dental, short-term disability, long-term disability, life and participation in our 401(k) program, to name a few. In addition, we have an attractive PTO policy along with holidays and paid parental leave.
