The 2026 9/11 Heroes Run 5K welcomes runners, ruckers, and walkers of all ages and fitness levels to commemorate the 25th anniversary of 9/11 and honor the heroes who stepped up to serve that day and in the wars that followed. This event helps ensure future generations understand the significance of September 11, 2001, and continue to honor our first responders and service members for years to come.

     Race Day Details

    (Please Arrive AFTER 08:45am. We need to give the fire trucks time to set-up.)

     

    Parking:

    Please enter campus from 48th Ave (west of campus). Travelling West Campus Dr toward the event will make finding the parking lot much easier! At the traffic light (W Campus Drive and Laker Village Drive) turn RIGHT then take the first LEFT into the parking lot. 

    There is a short walk to the clock tower, but consider that your warm-up ;) Parking is FREE. When you see the Allendale Fire Truck with the American Flag on display, you're close!

     

    Check-in & Packet Pickup:

    Packet pick-up will begin at 09:00 and will go until 10:00. You will see tables and booths around the clock tower.

    If you registered for the run, you will go to the Run Check-in Table. If you registered for the RUCK, you will go to the RUCK Check-in Table, and get your ruck pack weighed-in.

    Please feel free to wear your 9/11 Heroes Run shirt for the event, or wear other patriotic attire. We want to see your Red, White, and Blue!

     

    Restrooms: Facilities are located inside of the Kirkhof Center, immediately south of the clock tower. There are water refill stations located inside as well. 

     

    Course:

    There will be course maps and signs to mark the route. Once we complete our Opening Ceremony, which begins at 10am, we will line up for the start of the 5K. Both Runners and Ruckers are starting at the same time.

     

    The Award Ceremony will begin around 11:30am. Participants must be present to receive their 1st, 2nd, or 3rd place charms.

     

    Heroes Expo:

    There will be plenty to do and see as we commemorate the 25th anniversary of 9/11.  The expo opens at 09:00 as participants and spectators check in and mingle, and we close up at 2pm. 

    • Griff, Finn, and Ember—the Grand Rapids mascots—available for photos from 10am-12pm
    • Cornhole and other activities
    • Veteran-service organizations and community partners will have booths
    • Local veterans, first responders, families, and plenty of civilians who want to show their appreciation and support for our local heroes
    • OVK BBQ - Veteran-owned food truck will be onsite for post-race refueling (bring your wallet)

  • GORUCK RUCKING DIVISION

    Travis Manion Foundation is proud to partner with GORUCK again in 2026, bringing rucking divisions to every 9/11 Heroes Run. Rucking is a sport grounded in Special Forces Training in which participants carry weighted rucksacks.
