The 2026 9/11 Heroes Run 5K welcomes runners, ruckers, and walkers of all ages and fitness levels to commemorate the 25th anniversary of 9/11 and honor the heroes who stepped up to serve that day and in the wars that followed. This event helps ensure future generations understand the significance of September 11, 2001, and continue to honor our first responders and service members for years to come.

Race Day Details:
We’re excited to see you Saturday morning at Mill Dam Park in Huntington. The weather looks outstanding - sunny with a high of 80 degrees for the day. Perfect running conditions. We wanted to share a quick update so you know the schedule of events.
We do not have a pre-race packet pick up!
What is the ideal arrival time? Before 8:15am. If you’re an early bird - check in starts at 7:30am. If you’re a last minute person - we’d tell you to be there by 8:15am. We would ask you to pull in past the race timer set-up to the second parking lot. There is plenty of parking.Between 7:30am and 8:15am - please check-in and pick up your Bib and Race Shirt.
Same Day Registration tables will be set up and QR code’s available to register online for those who haven’t done so already.
From here - you can head into our Memorial area. Breakfast items and coffee will be provided by Kitchen Kabaret and Southdown Coffee, as well as bottled water provided by United Rentals and grab and go fruit from Southdown Market. There will also be beverages provided by Monster Beverage Company.
Schedule of Events:
8:30am - 1 mile Fun Run will begin
8:50am - Opening Ceremonies
9:00am - Ceremony will begin with some remarks before we begin our 9/11 remembrance ceremony, reading of the 43 names, balloon release (biodegradable balloons are being used again)
Approximately 9:15am - we will gather at the start line for the 5K run.
10:00am - Medals will be awarded for race finishers.
10:15am - Closing Remarks
Note to Runners: the 1 mile fun run will exit Mill Dam Park, turn left and then right down Mill Dam Road. A 0.5 mile marker will be set up to turn around and come back.
For the 5K - the run will follow the same path as the 1 mile, but continue down West Shore Road to Coindre Hall, which will be the halfway point, before turning around. There will be a water station set up. Additionally, the roads are closed for this race but out of total precaution of cars, we recommend running along the right side of the road around any blind curves, both to and from Coindre Hall.
Please be sure to wear your 2026 9/11 Heroes Run t-shirt and other patriotic gear on race day.

GORUCK RUCKING DIVISION
Travis Manion Foundation is proud to partner with GORUCK again in 2026, bringing rucking divisions to every 9/11 Heroes Run. Rucking is a sport grounded in Special Forces Training in which participants carry weighted rucksacks.
