The 2026 9/11 Heroes Run 5K welcomes runners, ruckers, and walkers of all ages and fitness levels to commemorate the 25th anniversary of 9/11 and honor the heroes who stepped up to serve that day and in the wars that followed. This event helps ensure future generations understand the significance of September 11, 2001, and continue to honor our first responders and service members for years to come.

GORUCK RUCKING DIVISION
Travis Manion Foundation is proud to partner with GORUCK again in 2026, bringing rucking divisions to every 9/11 Heroes Run. Rucking is a sport grounded in Special Forces Training in which participants carry weighted rucksacks. SERGEANT SHAWN NELSON 1-MILE HERO DEDICATION
Running in Honor of Sergeant Shawn Nelson
December 5, 1983 – December 14, 2012Sergeant Shawn Nelson was a dedicated U.S. Army Airborne soldier, a passionate seeker of knowledge, and above all, a deeply devoted father. Born on December 5, 1983, Shawn honorably answered the call to service, completing a tour of duty in Afghanistan and earning the rank of Sergeant. He carried the pride of being an Airborne soldier into every aspect of his life, combining a brave spirit with a genuine love for learning and reading.
While Shawn loved the thrill of jumping out of airplanes and the quiet focus of a good book, his greatest joy by far was his family. He absolutely adored his boys. Driven by an unwavering desire to be an active part of their lives, Shawn relocated to Utah to be as close to his sons as possible.
Whether he was playing with his kids or sharing his love for discovery, his happiest moments were spent as a father. Shawn’s legacy lives on through his service to his country, his fierce love for his boys, and the enduring memories they share.
