The 2026 9/11 Heroes Run 5K welcomes runners, ruckers, and walkers of all ages and fitness levels to commemorate the 25th anniversary of 9/11 and honor the heroes who stepped up to serve that day and in the wars that followed. This event helps ensure future generations understand the significance of September 11, 2001, and continue to honor our first responders and service members for years to come.

GORUCK RUCKING DIVISION
Travis Manion Foundation is proud to partner with GORUCK again in 2026, bringing rucking divisions to every 9/11 Heroes Run. Rucking is a sport grounded in Special Forces Training in which participants carry weighted rucksacks. SSG DARREN P. HUBBELL 1-MILE HERO DEDICATION
Running in Honor of Staff Sergeant Darren Patrick Hubbell
September 2, 1968 – June 20, 2007Staff Sergeant Darren Patrick Hubbell, affectionately known as “O.G.” (Old Guy) or “Doc Hub,” was born on September 2, 1968, in Jacksonville, Florida. A dedicated soldier and respected medic, Darren served in the United States Army for 14 years, most recently as a Senior Line Medic with the 1st Battalion, 64th Armor Regiment, 3rd Infantry Division.
Throughout his military career, SSG Hubbell completed multiple deployments, including one tour in Panama, one in Afghanistan, and four in Iraq. Known for his calm presence under pressure and deep commitment to his fellow soldiers, he earned a reputation as a dependable and compassionate medic in some of the most demanding environments.
Beyond his military service, Darren had a deep appreciation for history and loved playing computer games in his downtime. He especially enjoyed spending quiet moments outdoors at his fire pit, reflecting and connecting with family and friends.
SSG Hubbell passed away on June 20, 2007, in Baghdad, Iraq, at the age of 38. He was laid to rest with full military honors in Cobbtown, Georgia.
He is survived by his wife, Dana Hubbell of Metter; his children, Darren P. Hubbell and Marina Hubbell of Sumner; step-sons Franklin and Nash Rigdon of Metter; his parents, Darlene and Kim Larsen, and Gary Hubbell; brothers Jared and Chad Larsen; and his in-laws, Rev. Murl and Ruth Gwynn of Collins.
SSG Hubbell's legacy lives on through his family, his comrades, and the many lives he touched with his service and sacrifice.
