In Honor Of

Deputy William “Will” May

Deputy William “Will” May began his career with the Walton County Sheriff’s Office in 2014. He started as a Communications Officer and was sworn in as a Deputy Sheriff in 2019. Through hard work and dedication, Will earned a promotion to Field Training Officer, where he helped shape the next generation of deputies.

Will was known for his bright orange Pit Vipers and the way he could lift spirits during even the toughest shifts. He was a trusted zone partner who regularly picked up overtime to support his fellow deputies. Whether behind the radio or out on patrol, Will showed up for his team. He worked hard, loved what he did, and always found a way to make others smile.

Public service ran in his family. His father, Bill May, served as Assistant Fire Chief with Walton County Fire Rescue before retiring. Will carried that same commitment into his own career, serving with pride and purpose.

Will is survived by his wife and four children, his sisters, cousins who were more like brothers, aunts, uncles, and a large extended family. He also leaves behind countless friends and colleagues whose lives he touched throughout his years of service.

There is no simple way to sum up who Will was or what he meant to those who knew him. His legacy of service and the strength of the relationships he built will always be remembered. We honor him by continuing the work he believed in and loved so much.
