Operation Legacy Service Projects
Olympia, WA - Thurston County Food Bank

Join TMF and local volunteers as we support a local community organization aimed at supporting those in need!
Each year, the Thurston County Food Bank's 3 local farms produce up to 26,000+ lbs of vegetables for the community at large. They are asking for volunteers as they prepare for harvest and need help with tool maintenance/sharpening.
No prior experience is necessary. We will go through a training brief when we arrive at the farm.
We will be meeting on site at 12:00pm at their
West Side Farm: 3839 11th Ave NW, Olympia, WA 98502
**Students and adults that need to complete community service hours, are welcome to join us for the day.
Everyone participating will need to sign a volunteer/liability form. If you need to track community-service hours, it can also be completed in this form: https://thurston-county-food-bank.volunteerlocal.com/volunteer
Tool maintenance check list/protocol would look something like the following: .

-
Scrubbing down (with proper PPE of course) rusty tools with CLR
-
Sharpening the tools themselves with appropriate means (bench grinder/hand files/wetstone for knives)
-
Sanding down and oiling with linseed wooden handles (sawing broken ones shorter)
-
Oiling metal parts of shovels/pics/axes/etc.
