Operation Morgan Park

Serve shoulder-to-shoulder with volunteers from The Mission Continues, which was recently acquired by Travis Manion Foundation.

Join Travis Manion Foundation's Chicago Service Platoon as we partner with Morgan Park High School to bring the Legacy Garden Project to life—a community-driven initiative inspired by recent alumna Trinity Miles, a proud member of the African American Club. Her vision honors the memory of beloved teacher Mr. McKnight, whose passion for gardening left a lasting impact on students, staff, and the Morgan Park community.

This summer, volunteers, students, alumni, and community members will come together to create a vibrant garden that reflects Mr. McKnight's legacy—sustainable, welcoming, and filled with native plants and pollinator-friendly flowers. The Legacy Garden will serve as a living tribute: an outdoor space that inspires learning, strengthens community connections, and continues to grow for generations to come.

Project Goals

  • Create a sustainable garden featuring native plants and pollinator-friendly flowers.

  • Honor the legacy of Mr. McKnight by celebrating his love of gardening, education, and mentorship.

  • Provide students with hands-on opportunities to learn about environmental stewardship.

  • Build a lasting community space that represents pride, resilience, and growth.

How Volunteers Will Make an Impact

Volunteers will help prepare garden beds, plant native flowers and greenery, shape the layout of the Legacy Garden, and bring this meaningful vision to life. Every shovel of soil turned and every flower planted contributes to a lasting tribute that celebrates service, remembrance, education, and community pride.
