WHAT IS THE HONOR PROJECT?
Every year, TMF mobilizes volunteers across the country to pay respect to fallen heroes on and around Memorial Day. In 2025, we’re expanding our Memorial Day event to more than 50 cemeteries, where volunteers will place hand-crafted commemorative tokens at the resting places of fallen heroes and pause to reflect on their service and sacrifice. Spartans will be on the ground at Arlington National Cemetery as well as cemeteries in Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Kentucky, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Nevada, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, Washington and Wisconsin.

WHY DO WE HONOR FALLEN HEROES ON MEMORIAL DAY?
Visiting fallen heroes on Memorial Day weekend reminds us of the sacrifices that service members have made to protect our freedoms. By placing commemorative tokens on the resting places of fallen heroes, saying their names, and learning their stories through The Honor Project, we show respect for their service and help keep their legacies alive. The Honor Project is a tradition that empowers inspired volunteers to put gratitude into action by observing the true meaning of Memorial Day.
Additional Information
-
SUBMITTING YOUR HERO
I am a family member of the fallen with a loved one interred at a participating cemetery. Does it cost anything for my loved one to be visited and have a token placed?
There is no cost to submit your loved one to be visited as part of The Honor Project. It is our honor to pay tribute to them on Memorial Day weekend.
Can you visit my loved one at my local cemetery?
Only certain cemeteries have been approved for inclusion in The Honor Project. You can view a full list of events here.
If you’d like to honor a fallen hero located elsewhere, you may choose to host your own event.
Will I be able to tell if someone has visited my loved one?
Yes. Our volunteers will share a photo of the commemorative token at your loved one’s resting place via online photo galleries. You will receive additional information about how to access these galleries after the project has concluded. Some photos may also be posted on TMF social media platforms such as Facebook and Instagram.
What if I do not know the grave site location?
Most of the time, you can look up interment locations on national cemetery websites, but you are not required to find the grave site location in order to submit your fallen hero’s name. Please provide your best estimation–even if it’s simply a section number—and we will take care of the rest.
I am a family member of the fallen. May I also volunteer?
Absolutely. We encourage families of the fallen to volunteer with TMF on Memorial Day Weekend. Please register at your location of choice when volunteer registration opens in March. Event organizers will contact you with details in May. If there is no event near you, you are invited to host your own event.

SERVING AS A VOLUNTEER
I want to serve but I'm not located anywhere near the participating national cemeteries and am unable to travel. Can I help in another way?
Absolutely. If you’d like to get involved with our effort but cannot travel to one of our participating cemeteries on Memorial Day weekend, we encourage you to host your own event.
I registered as a volunteer. What are the details?
A volunteer leader will contact all registered volunteers prior to the project to share details regarding meeting spots, procedures, times, and anything else you will need to know. Volunteer registration will close on May 21, 2025.
