HUMILITY - LOVE OF LEARNING - SPIRITUALITY

Col. Andre L. Hance, Sr. was a father, pastor and lifelong member of the Army. He did multiple tours in Iraq and too many different station assignments to list. He loved God, his family and his country and his life showed it. He made it a point in his life to show that, through it all, the ups and downs, if you put your faith in God and be true to yourself, you could leave this world knowing that you made it a better place.

Character Strength Story:

HUMILITY - My father was a very accomplished man. However, if you ever asked him of the things that he accomplished and what he'd done, he would simply say, "Not enough. I've got so much more to do." Now that he's gone, I finally get it. Your accomplishments aren't measured by you, but by the impact you have on others.

LOVE OF LEARNING - This was one of many joys in my father’s life. He was constantly learning new things. As brilliant as he was, he never stopped learning. He had degrees from numerous universities and was working on even more when he passed. Many people have bookshelves in their houses, but my dad had a library of approximately 3,000 books. However, he didn't just collect them, he read each and every one of them. He loved to learn.

SPIRITUALITY - I have never met a more spiritual person than my dad. He wasn't just religious, he was spiritual. He respected all religions and encouraged everyone to find something to believe in and something to put your heart and soul into, for then you would find true happiness. He believed in people. He made it a point to help and inspire others through acts of kindness, acts of faith and acts of pure love when others needed it the most. He was truly a spiritual man.
