HUMOR - KINDNESS - PERSEVERANCE
Daniel was a lover, not a fighter and he sure loved big! He adored all four of our children and took every chance he could to spend time with them. We didn't want the military life, but at the age of 28 and with a third kid on the way, financially it was the only thing that made sense for our family. So we made the best of it, but unfortunately it was too much for my sweetheart to endure.
Character Strength Stories:
Humor - Daniel was always a comedian—he at least thought he was. And he was never embarrassed to be silly in front of others. On one of his deployments, he sang “La Bamba” for karaoke one night and it was pretty awful, but I was so proud of him for doing it, and thankful the guys recorded it for me.
Kindness - Daniel would give anyone the shirt off his back and that's why being a medic was so good for him in many ways.
Perseverance - Before Daniel passed, he really tried his best to recover from his PTSD. He went to a rehab for 30 days to abstain from alcohol the month before he died. I wish I would've been able to do more for him at the time, but now I know I was doing my part by caring for the children and keeping our household together.
