Pfc. Robert H. Dembowski, 20, of Ivyland, Pa., died May 24, 2007 in Baghdad, Iraq, of wounds suffered when his unit came in contact with enemy forces using small arms fire. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 504th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, N.C. Robert went by “Bob” and graduated Council Rock High School North and Middle Bucks Institute of Technology in 2005. He joined the United States Army in January 2006 and completed the basic Airborne course at Fort Benning, GA in April 2006. Dembowski’s unit deployed to Iraq in January 2007. Robert served as a machine gunner, driver, and radio transmission operator. He became friends with many of his fellow soldiers and gained the nicknames, “Dembo,” “Ski,” and “Debo.” Robert loved the outdoors, especially hunting and spending time with his family and friends. In May of 2005, he gave a speech about commitment, courage, and service at the dedication of the World War II Honor Roll at the Chancellor Center in Newtown, Pa.  Robert Dembowski’s military awards and decorations include the Bronze Star, Purple Heart, Army Commendation Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Army Overseas Service Ribbon, Combat Infantryman Badge, Parachutist Badge, and Weapons Qualification Badge: rifle expert. Robert was survived by his parents, Robert Sr. and Frances and his sister, Janice.

The Travis Manion Foundation honored Pfc. Robert H. Dembowski on Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service, Jan. 21, 2013 when volunteers gathered at Washington Crossing National Cemetery and dedicated hours of community service to continue the Fallen Hero’s legacy.
