SCPO (SEAL) Daniel Healy was killed while conducting combat operations when the MH-47 helicopter that he was aboard crashed in the vicinity of Asadabad, Afghanistan, in Kunar Province on June 28, 2005. Healy was assigned to SEAL Delivery Vehicle Team One, Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. Healy joined the Navy in 1990, and later volunteered to become a Navy SEAL. He deployed to Afghanistan in 2005. Among the awards Daniel earned were: the Bronze Star Medal with “V” device, the Purple Heart, the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Award, and the National Defense Service Medal. Daniel was survived by his son, Jake, daughters, Chelsea, Jasmine, and Sasha, his wife, Norminda, mother, Natalie Healy, his father Henry “Tom” Healy, his sisters, Jennifer and Shannon, his half- brother, Sean, and half-sister, Carrie.

“Senior Chief Dan Healy was a great SEAL. He was fiercely determined to face the enemy on the field of battle. I know of no other man who I would want with me more when facing the enemy. All SEALs will forever be held to a higher standard because of what Dan Healy did.” Chief Warrant Officer Dave Bauer said of his shipmate, Dan Healy.

The Travis Manion Foundation honored SPCO Healy with five more local Fallen Heroes through our Character Does Matter program in February 2012 when we told their stories to inspire 600 sixth grade students from Cooperative Middle School in Stratham, N.H. To honor the legacies of their Fallen Heroes, students completed 2,294 hours of service, and held a Memorial Day ceremony for veterans and families of the fallen.
