Character Strength Story Submitted by Heidi, Grant's Wife: "Grant loved his family more than anything in the world. He loved us so much that he ultimately gave his own life to provide us with a life that he never had. He also loved making others smile and laugh. He was always the one making jokes, even if they were about himself. He had a positive outlook on life and never let his past stop him from smiling. Grant's bravery started when he was young. I have heard stories about why Grant moved to Merrill, WI and it had to do with his dad abusing him and his siblings. He grew up that way his whole life and one day he finally stood up to his dad. He told him he would never lay his hands on him or his siblings again and he made sure that his dad followed through on it. I can only imagine the courage it took to stand up to a man that had abused you your whole life."
