LOVE OF LEARNING
SPC Max died suddenly on December 6th 2007. Max and his brothers in arms were the best of friends and were constant companions. Serving together, they always had each other to depend on. Max loved being with his family and friends, having a good time, and enjoying life. Being a soldier in the United States Army has always been a dream of his, with persistency and determination he made his dream come true. Max inspired his friends back at home to follow in his footsteps and lead by example. He was known for his optimistic attitude and being able to put 100 percent effort into everything he did. Max is remembered for his character strength of curiosity.
Max was smart and loved being "on the edge". He tested in the top 1% of the population. Combined with a sharp wit and keen sense of his surroundings, he could MacGyver his way out of pretty much any situation. Max was trained as a vehicle mechanic, but when he got to Iraq, he volunteered as a convoy escort driver and gunner. He didn't make a big deal out of it, just saw it as a job that needed to be done. He truly embodied and practiced the ethos: "If not me, then who...?"
