#TheHonorProject Activates Patriotic Volunteers to Honor Fallen Heroes in Arlington This Memorial Day

For as long as Emily Domenech can remember, she has visited Arlington National Cemetery on Memorial Day. Arlington is the final resting place of her grandfather, a career Army officer who fought in World War II, Korea, and Vietnam. She also makes an annual additional visit to Section 60, the final resting place for those who have made the ultimate sacrifice in America’s most recent wars, including in Iraq and Afghanistan.

But in 2020, Memorial Day was different. COVID-19 restrictions limited access for visitors and Emily found the grounds eerily empty. She acted quickly and posted an offer on Twitter to visit with the loved ones of her family and friends for those who could not visit this year. To her surprise, her tweet reached hundreds of strangers and thousands more who were inspired by these connections. Emily’s only regret was that she was not able to visit all of the heroes whose families reached out.

That’s why this Memorial Day, Emily has partnered with Travis Manion Foundation to create #TheHonorProject and ensure that all our fallen heroes can receive the honor and recognition they truly deserve. Section 60 in Arlington is the final resting place for this Foundation’s namesake and inspiration, Marine 1st Lieutenant Travis Manion.

#TheHonorProject will empower a team of patriotic volunteers to visit the final resting places of heroes buried in Arlington whose loved ones can’t be there themselves this Memorial Day. Learn how you can get involved here.
