TMF Partners with Western Governors University to Create a Scholarship to Assist Veterans and Families of the Fallen

Veteran Online6SEATTLE, WA – One of the nation’s leading veteran service organizations, Travis Manion Foundation (TMF), has collaborated with Western Washington University (WGU) in their work to provide financial aid towards education for service members, veterans, and their families, which will be known as the “Honoring our Heroes Scholarship.”

WGU recognizes the character strengths of leadership, courage, resilience, and perseverance of those affiliated with the military community, just as TMF does. The “Honoring Our Heroes Scholarship” highlights these character strengths, and eligible applicants will be invited to participate in TMF’s Leading with Your Strengths personal development course. This course guides individuals through exercises designed to help learn about personal character strengths and to identify values and passions in order to enhance overall well-being. A total of 25 awards valued at $4,000 each will be provided to eligible members who are looking to continue their education, and the deadline to apply is November 11th, 2021.

“Travis Manion Foundation strives to unite and strengthen communities by training, developing, and highlighting veterans to serve as the role models who lead them,” said TMF Regional Manager, Julie Politakis. “We are honored to partner with WGU on the Honoring Our Heroes Scholarship, and to offer our professional development programs and training opportunities, to empower even more veterans and families of the fallen to pass on their values to the next generation and the community at large.”

"The generous work of the Travis Manion Foundation will directly help military heroes to fulfill their potential at Western Governors University," said WGU's Director for Military Engagement Jeff Harley.  "This is a wonderful partnership that helps to mark WGU as a military-focused University."

Travis Manion Foundation’s Leading With Your Strengths program will help scholarship applicants speak to their character strengths and how those same character strengths will continue our Veterans’ and Families of the Fallen legacies. Additional information can be found at:

About Travis Manion Foundation

Travis Manion Foundation (TMF) unites communities to strengthen America's national character by empowering veterans and families of fallen heroes to develop and lead future generations. In 2007, 1stLt Travis Manion (USMC) was killed in Iraq while saving his wounded teammates. Today, Travis' legacy lives on in the words he spoke before leaving for his final deployment, "If Not Me, Then Who..." Guided by this mantra, veterans continue their service, develop strong relationships with their communities, and thrive in their post-military lives by serving as character role models to youth. As a result, communities prosper and the character of our nation’s heroes lives on in the next generation.

The story of 1stLt Travis Manion and his Naval Academy brother Lt. (SEAL) Brendan Looney have been publicized in the book Brothers Forever, and additional information about the Foundation can be found at
