Jessica’s husband, Marine Lance Corporal John T. Byrd, was killed by a suicide bomber in Iraq in 2004, while Jessica was pregnant with their son Elijah. Jessica has since turned this tragedy into a life of service, as her way to carry on the legacy of her late husband.
