Lieutenant Commander Scott Bracher was one of two killed when their S-3B Viking jet crashed while making an approach to land after a training flight in September 2005.  Bracher, an 11-year veteran of the Navy, flew the S-3B Viking carrier-based jet as a member of the VS-32 ‘Maulers,’ based in Jacksonville.  Following his 1994 graduation from the Naval Academy, Scott became a decorated Navy pilot, earning the Navy Top Hook award five times, the 2001 Landing Signals Officer of the Year for VS-32, two Air Medals, and a Navy Commendation Medal for his honorable contribution to the war on terror. LCDR Bracher is survived by his parents and his brother, Todd.

“Scott was a son, a brother, and a friend. It is hard to say all that needs to be said. How can a man’s life be summarized in a few minutes’ speech?” asked Lt. Andrew Wylie as he recalled his friendship with Bracher.

LCDR Bracher was honored through the Travis Manion Foundation Character Does Matter program presented during the USNA’s Summer Seminar and USNA STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) Camp for rising 11^th graders.
