On July 22, 2010 Marine Combat Engineer Rob Jones stepped on an improvised explosive device while serving in Afghanistan. The injuries he sustained required two above-the-knee amputations that led to 18 months of grueling rehabilitation and recovery.

Sage Foundation recently launched its list of 2018 Charity Pioneers, an initiative dedicated to  recognizing the top leaders in the non-profit space working with young people, women and military veterans.

Looking back 11 years after Travis’ death, I don’t think of Travis Manion “the man that was larger than life,” or even Travis Manion “the warrior.” I think of him as my friend.
