Event Recap

2018 Puerto Rico Expedition Recap

A group of survivors, TMF staff and volunteers traveled to Puerto Rico to honor their loved ones by serving those still impacted by Hurricane Maria. Although it has been months since the island felt the ravages of the storm, many areas still show evidence of the devastation. Members of the local community shared their storm stories that were simultaneously heartbreaking and awe-inspiring. A common bond of resilience and strength was evident as the TMF group developed relationships with the people of Puerto Rico. The projects consisted of repairs at a camp that houses service teams, debris clean up and assisting at two homeless shelters. The work was challenging due to the daily downpours and the high heat, but the TMF team powered through and completed the jobs in true “If Not Me, Then Who…” fashion. As the group departed, the sense of accomplishment was evident along with the new friendships that developed over the course of the Expedition.
